June 7, 2010 – Nicolas Gagnon loves to ride his bicycle, but now he is riding with a purpose. Gagnon, the Quebec Regional Manager for SMS Rents, is in training as a member of the ÉQUIPEMENT SMS group that will ride from Montreal to Quebec to raise funds to combat cancer.

The second annual “Ride To Conquer Cancer” will see the teams of cycling enthusiasts ride 200 km through Quebec countryside over two days, on July 10 and 11, 2010. Last year, the ride attracted nearly 1500 participants who raised $5.7 million for the Segal Cancer Centre of the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, as well as other cancer centres throughout the province. Funds are distributed to several programs supporting breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care.

Gagnon is one of eight members of ÉQUIPEMENT SMS, many of whom have been personally affected by cancer in their families. Among its members, ÉQUIPEMENT SMS counts Patrick Carpentier, the celebrated Quebec racing driver seen on NASCAR, CASCAR and CART circuits. According to Gagnon, “We look forward to having Pat ride with us this summer. His spirit and ever-positive outlook will help to carry us all through to our goal.”

Captained by Richard Dugas, ÉQUIPEMENT SMS has committed itself to raise $20,000 for the cause, with each member pledging to collect $2,500 in donations.
The president of SMS Rents, Marcel Langlois, is quick to congratulate Nic and the team for their effort. “We are all very proud of the commitment Nic has shown to prepare for the ride and make this year another great success.”

Friends of SMS Rents are invited to help Nic Gagnon achieve his $2500 pledge by donating through his personal page on the “Ride To Conquer Cancer” website, found here .

In Gagnon’s words: “It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my bike, my helmet, and your generosity, a real impact will be made!”
