Equipment rentals slow with economy
By MIKE SULLIVAN
NewsDec. 16, 2008 - In the throes of what experts now acknowledge is a "recession," some gun-shy Elgin-area residents are opting out of buying certain equipment for fix-up projects in favour of renting.
But more handymen apparently have scrapped plans for home
improvement projects altogether, leading to a slowdown in the equipment
rental business.
Phil Stumme, longtime owner of A to Z Rentals Inc., 720 E. Chicago St., said 2008 was far from a banner year for him.
"The
numbers for this year, as opposed to say, last year or the year before,
are down a little bit," he said. "It's not a huge percentage —
probably less than 10 percent."
