carpetJune 7, 2013 – The year 2013 marks the 45th anniversary of Chemspec, one of the leading innovators in carpet, upholstery and hard surface cleaning products. Chemspec helped advance professional carpet cleaning when it was a fledgling industry in the 1960s. Established in 1968 in Baltimore, Maryland, by Bob Hughes and Dan Savanuk, Chemspec contributed significantly to developing the sophisticated and innovative chemistries in use by professional cleaners today.

The first Chemspec product was Double Strength In-Plant Detergent, specifically designed to help the many rug cleaning plants located on the east coast of the United States to get better cleaning results. The quality of that first product is evident – it is still a top-selling product in the Chemspec line 45 years later.

Over the next 45 years, Chemspec introduced a number of industry firsts, including:

·  TLC: The industry’s first carpet pre-spray and the development of the concept of the name “Traffic Lane Cleaner.” Today, using TLC pre-spray is an industry standard practice.

·  Biosolv: The use of orange oil to increase the efficacy of carpet detergents.

·  Liqua-Gel: Powerful tar, grease, ink remover with special gel formulation to help prevent damage to carpet backing.

·  Chewing Gum Remover – innovative freezing technique.

Chemspec introduced many other products to the industry, including Haitian cotton cleaning products, Powdered Formula 90 (still a benchmark for rinse agents), Liquid Formula 90 and Dye Gone, the leading two-part dye product for removing red wine, fruit juices and sports drinks without using the common but cumbersome heat transfer method.

Chemspec was also one of the first companies in the industry to introduce green-certified cleaning products, including the OneCleanGreen line and DFC (detergent-free cleaning) products. Both OneCleanGreen and DFC products have numerous green certifications and represent a significant step forward in cleaning technologies.

Early this year, Chemspec entered into a strategic marketing alliance with Legend Brands, which includes Sapphire Scientific, ProRestore and Dri-Eaz in its group of brands.
