Sept. 5, 2017 - Linamar Corporation’s Skyjack division will be showcasing its largest articulating boom – the SJ85 AJ – for the first time to a German audience, during the Platformers’ Days trade show, from September 8-9. The company will also present the compact SJ30 ARJE articulating boom and other products, including a variety of accessories from its certified ACCESSORYZERS™ range that add productivity to its mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs).

“We’re pleased to be at Platformers’ Days again this year as we’ve had a great reception since first exhibiting, nearly two decades ago,” says Malcolm Early, vice president of marketing at Skyjack. “It’s a unique show for its informality and industry camaraderie, and for customers to have the chance to operate our machinery. Our SJ85 AJ articulating boom is an important unit in our line-up and we look forward to showing customers what it can achieve.”

Class-leading functionality
The SJ85 AJ features a class-leading working height of 27.91 m (91.6 ft), horizontal outreach of 17.07 m (56 ft) and a superior up-and-over clearance of 10.36 m (34 ft). It features all the same design elements that made the SJ63 AJ a hit, and has a reach envelope that distinguishes it apart from other units in its class.

“We’ve gone one step further with this new articulating boom,” says Corey Connolly, product manager at Skyjack. “Having a large unit with exceptional up-and-over clearance to complement the great working height and horizontal reach will allow operators the ability to complete many tasks across all kinds of applications.”

As with Skyjack’s other articulating booms, the SJ85 AJ riser design provides SKYRISER™ capability, the company’s unique riser design that offers true vertical rise without drifting. An open-center knuckle riser design provides SPEEDYREACH™ efficiency, enabling the lowering of the fly boom to ground level for re-stocking without lowering the riser; operators will be able to function between maximum platform height and ground level in 60-70 seconds.

“Operators will definitely notice how much easier it is to get to maximum height and back down with the SJ85 AJ,” says Connolly. “Skyjack’s riser design is what sets our new boom apart from similar machines in its class. There is no need to worry about performing multiple functions to lift the riser. The SJ85 AJ’s riser performs the same as all other Skyjack articulating booms – it goes straight up and down.”

The SJ85 AJ also features Skyjack’s EASYDRIVETM direction sensing drive and steer controls. A unique boom feature only utilized by Skyjack which means the Boom lift controls are always in the orientation of the boom regardless of position of turret over chassis.

Combining an outstanding reach envelope with dual platform capacities of 750/500 lbs (340/227 kg) and two/three personal rating, makes the SJ85 AJ the most efficient machine for operators looking to maximize productivity and jobsite performance.

Skyjack’s SJ30 AJ articulating boom is the first electric model in the range and the first to feature a rotating jib.

Electric boom
Skyjack’s SJ30 ARJE articulating boom will also be on display at Platformers’ Days in Hohenroda, central Germany. The unit is Skyjack’s first electric boom in its current product line-up, the first in the range to feature a rotating jib, and the first to have a direct electric AC drive. Its compact design combines zero tailswing, making it excellent for tight spaces such as warehouses, with competitive reach specifications to offer a broad range of jobsite functionality. The SJ30 ARJE features an 11 m (36 ft) working height, horizontal reach of 6.25 m (20.5 ft), up-and-over height of 3.99 m (13.1 ft), and a width of 1.19 m (3.9 ft).

The AC drive features two wheel motors operating in parallel to offer optimized gradeability of 35%; while speed and angle sensors reduce loss of traction and tire scrubbing. Optimized battery size and charger allows for extended operation on a single charge – maximizing uptime for customers. The SJ30 ARJE also features SKYRISER; and EASYDRIVE.

Certified range of accessories
Also on display at the show in central Germany will be: the SJ16 vertical mast lift with outdoor wind rating option and pipe rack; the SJIII 3219 DC electric scissor with pipe rack; the SJIII 4740 DC electric scissor; and the SJ6832 RTE rough terrain scissor with pipe rack.

“Pipe racks are becoming more popular for rental companies in Germany as our social accident insurance institution, Berufsgenossenschaft, is making more and more checks at construction sites and focusing on the safety of lifting equipment,” say Andreas Stumpf, sales manager for Skyjack in Germany. “Skyjack is currently the only mobile elevating work platform manufacturer that offers certified pipe racks for our machines. Operators can be sure that in using our ACCESSORYZERS, they will have both increased productivity and secured platform functionality.”
