Dec. 11, 2017 - Cooper Equipment Rental's company-wide food drive has come to an end and Cooper would like to thank everyone who supported this great cause. Cooper’s branch network managed to collect approximately 1500 lbs of non-perishable food items, 450 lbs of that came from our Rexdale branch alone!

Over the next week, all donated goods will go to a charity or food bank of each branch’s choice. We can’t thank you enough for your support and participation in this initiative.

This month, we’d like to give a shout out to Derek Cashmore, our Northern Ontario Sales Manager, for his dedication to the success of Cooper’s annual Sudbury clothing drive. The winter clothing drive is an initiative in the Sudbury community that originated as a method to give back to this community, and has now become one of the most successful charitable events the Greater City of Sudbury has ever seen. This year, Cooper collected 14,438 winter clothing items for donation. Since 2014, Cooper has been able to collect over 30,000 winter clothing items for those in need. This is a direct result of Derek’s commitment and dedication to maximizing the success and reach of this campaign.

Derek organized over 95 clothing drop-off sites with partners including Rainbow District School Board, CTV, Norcat, the Sudbury Fire Department and the Greater City of Sudbury. From there, Derek also organized and managed the ongoing pickup of clothing items by volunteers as well as the cleaning and repair of the donations prior to distributing them to the charitable organization, Our Children Our Future. The distribution of collected items lasted 8 days, and kicked off by a media event where the Mayor of Sudbury, city councilors and many others gave speeches to thank Derek and Cooper for our commitment to community involvement. While this was going on, a line had begun outside the distribution centre of families and individuals eager to check out the items available from the clothing drive.

It is estimated that 5,000 individuals were clothed in some fashion from this year’s clothing drive alone! Close to 10,000 individuals have been clothed since we began the initiative.
