Announcement: Dear Editor....

Dear editor: Garnet Butler of Halifax, Nova Scotia, died on October 6. Garnet founded Butler Scaffold Rentals & Sales Limited in 1982 and sold his company on January 2007 due to illness. Garnet’s career in the rental industry spanned a period of more than 41 years, 16 years as a valued employee of a rental company and 25 years as the owner operator of his own rental operation.

During all those years he was a very dedicated supporter of the industry and its associations working as a volunteer on behalf of the membership of the Rental Association of Canada (RAC) Region 10 of the American Rental Association (ARA). Twice during the 41 years he served two three-year terms as president of the Atlantic local and two three-year terms as the Atlantic director on the board of the Rental Association of Canada. He then served three years on the RAC board culminating in 1998 as the president of the Rental Association of Canada – Region 10 ARA.

Garnet is survived by his wife Karna, who worked along side Garnet throughout his rental and association careers, also serving in all the chairs of the Atlantic Local and as the director for the Atlantic on the RAC Board. Garnet is also survived by daughter Denise, her husband Tony and granddaughters Erika and Chantal, son Colin, partner Crystal Hunter and grandson Dylan.
