July 23, 2015 - A JCB 3DX backhoe will soon be in service in Iringa, Tanzania as part of the Clinton Foundation’s agricultural development initiative for smallholder farmers in East Africa.

The Clinton Foundation is a non-profit organization established by former U.S. President Bill Clinton to convene businesses, governments, NGOs and individuals to improve global health and wellness. The foundation’s agriculture initiative strives to “grow food to feed the world” through the education of soil utilization, yield and soil mapping, hybrid maize seeds, herbicides, crop protection and improved farming practices and processes.

The foundation has partnered with JCB and dealer Machines and Tractors Tanzania to drive rural development in East Africa, where inadequate farming techniques and out-of-date equipment have caused insufficient output and failure to meet market demand. Machines and Tractors Tanzania’s parent company, Muscat Overseas, has been a JCB dealer for over forty years and is the market leader for agricultural equipment in the area.

“We are very pleased that JCB equipment will be used for this initiative in Tanzania and look forward to the positive impact it will have on the community,” said Thom Peebles, Vice President of Marketing for JCB North America. “JCB has a long-standing philosophy of giving back to communities around the world and the Clinton Foundation development initiative ties in well with our efforts.”
