Cooper's 2023 acquisitions push

Toronto's Cooper Equipment Rentals continued its aggressive growth strategy across Canada, acquiring three more rental companies in 2023. In February, Cooper announced it had purchased Hub Equipment, also located in Toronto. July brought the acquisition of Warner Equipment Rentals, headquartered in Kamloops, B.C., and Scotty's Equipment Rentals and Landscaping located in Rock View County, Alta.


Nor-Val Rentals acquired by Sunbelt

Nor-Val Rentals, headquartered in Armstrong, B.C., has announced in a LinkedIn post that it has become part of Sunbelt Rentals. "Nor-Val Rentals is excited to announce that we have joined the Sunbelt Rentals team," the post reads. "The Nor-Val family would like to thank all of our customers, suppliers, friends and family for their business, loyalty and support over the last three decades."


McDougall retires at Skyjack

Linamar Corporation’s Skyjack division announced the retirement of Skyjack president Ken McDougall, and subsequent appointment of Charlie Patterson as President, effective January 1, 2024. The two will be working together over the next several months to ensure a seamless transition for the organization.


Parkes takes over as Finning CEO

Finning International has announced that Scott Thomson, president and CEO, has retired from the company and the board of directors after leading the company for the last nine years. Kevin Parkes, the former COO, has succeeded Thomson.


Toromont announces appointments of new CEO and CFO

Toromont Industries Ltd. has announced that Michael McMillan has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors. This follows the previously announced retirement of Scott Medhurst as CEO, after a successful 35-year career with Toromont.


CRA introduces 2024 national board of directors

The Canadian Rental Association introduced its 2024 national board of directors at its Annual General Meeting last week. Incoming president, Sheldon Fingler, shared the following list on LinkedIn.


ARA and Toro partner on B.C. community impact project

The American Rental Association (ARA) Foundation recently partnered with The Toro Company Foundation to complete a community impact project in Langley, British Columbia. The project was in support of the Pacific Riding for Developing Abilities (PRDA), a non-profit, therapeutic equestrian riding centre dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with a wide range of abilities.


Workers at William F. White unionize

Workers at William F. White International Inc., a division of Sunbelt Rentals of Canada, Inc., have voted overwhelmingly in favour of joining the IATSE. Concerns over job security, wages and a changing work culture inspired these workers to come together to improve their working conditions by forming a union.


Campo acquitred by Engineered Air

Airtex Manufacturing Partnership operating as Engineered Air (based in Calgary) announced today that it has completed the acquisition of Campo Equipment, located in Brampton, Ont. Campo Equipment is a leading manufacturer of portable heating solutions for the construction, industrial, oil/gas, mining, event, disaster recovery industries and more.


United makes Forbes list of best employers for women

United Rentals has announced it was selected to the Forbes list of America’s Best Employers for Women 2023. Forbes’ sixth annual list of America’s Best Employers for Women was created in partnership with market research firm Statista.
