February 26, 2018 - Generac developed and launched its Generac Pro portable generator line: the XC and XD Series.

Tough working conditions demand tough generators, and the Generac Pro XC and XD Series are among the toughest, said Derik Gatzke, vice president of sales, Generac. Both units deliver plenty of power while being engineered specifically to endure anything a job site can dish out. The XC and XD Series were built for durability, reliability and serviceability, and we know they’ll be the hardest-working, toughest and easiest-to-use generators in the commercial space. They are serious rental ready products.

The XC Series portable generators, available in 6500 and 8000 watt varieties, are distinguished from average consumer-grade units on a number of fronts. These models feature a heavy-duty, fully wrapped, 12-gauge steel tube X Frame that protects the engine, alternator and fuel tank from damage on unforgiving job sites.

Instead of a lifting eye, the XC Series units offer a steel lifting pocket that is designed to fit most forklift and telehandler blades — a key benefit Generac incorporated as a result of the primary research it conducted with construction workers in designing the gen-set. The steel lifting pocket makes it easier to lift and transport the generator on a construction site.

Additionally, the impact-resistant fuel tank design features recessed tank edges and a dedicated rocker zone that allows the generator to sway as it is transported by a forklift or telehandler without damaging the unit. For manual transport, the dual-grip folding handle offers a locking mechanism that can be operated with one hand, while never-flat wheels with steel hubs make transport around the job site easy and efficient.

At the heart of the XC Series is Generac’s new 426 cc G-Force™ engine. This engine utilizes full pressure lubrication, reducing engine component wear for longer life. Optimized specifically for generator applications, the G-Force engine features a full-response air intake and targeted heat dispersal design, ensuring effective operation and cooling on construction sites.

“The many retailers, contractors and rental companies we’ve spoken with in developing the Generac Pro line have told us they want a high-quality, high-value alternative to Honda-powered products,” Gatzke said. “We believe powering the Generac Pro line with Generac G-Force engines meets that need.”

Since commercial users tend to use protective work gloves, every touchpoint on the XC Series — the fuel valve, choke lever and rocker switches, for example — is oversized so that they can be easily operated when wearing gloves.

The generator’s control panel features Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-compliant, full-panel ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection. Covered outlets protect the control panel from dirt as well as the elements. Idle control conserves fuel and reduces noise.

To ease on-site serviceability, routine maintenance items, such as filters and spark plugs, are accessible without removing the fuel tank or the side panels. A service decal lists the most common service parts necessary for routine maintenance, so there are no questions on the construction site and no unexpected downtime.

Because fuel flexibility is key in rental applications as well as on job sites where much equipment is driven by diesel fuel, the Generac Pro line also includes the diesel-fueled XD5000E portable generator.

Offering a 12-gal. fuel tank that can deliver as much as 32 hours of runtime at half load, the XD5000E is protected from the harsh realities of commercial and rental use by a fully welded 1.25-in steel frame. The integrated lifting eye provides for ease of transport as well as security on job sites.

The Final Tier 4 Yanmar LW Series 435cc industrial diesel engine has single-touch electric start with recoil start as a backup. Direct injection technology allows for low fuel consumption, contributing to the unit’s exceptionally long running time. And low oil pressure shutdown protects the engine from damage.

A 120/240V selector switch provides full 120V power from the gen-set. In addition to the two OSHA-compliant GFCI-protected duplex outlets, the XD5000E has one 120V NEMA L5-30R locking outlet and one 120/240V NEMA L14-30R locking outlet for the flexibility to power a wide variety of job site tools.

Generac also incorporated its patented TruePower™ technology into both the XC Series and the XD5000E. This technology allows electricity to be generated with low total harmonic distortion — less than six percent — for clean, smooth operation of sensitive tools and equipment.

The XC and XD Series generators are available for order now. The complete Generac Pro line — which will also include professional-grade pressure washers, pumps, mowers and other property maintenance equipment — is expected to begin shipping in Q2 2018.
