May 8, 2015 - Atlas Copco has expanded its Essential Case-Mounted (EC) range of hydraulic breaker attachments by adding five Small Range breakers to the lineup that are small enough to fit in limited-access work environments, such as pipe trenches. The new breakers fit 1- to 12-ton carriers and, like the full range of EC breakers, give rental centers and contractors a fast ROI by simplifying maintenance and operation.

The new, Small Range breaker attachments – the EC 40 T, EC 50 T, EC 60 T, EC 70 T and EC 80 T – excel in day-to-day breaking tasks for small-scale construction and demolition applications. For instance, a carrier operator can lower a Small Range EC breaker into a narrow trench to break apart oversize instead of digging a wider trench to fit a larger breaker.

“These compact case-mounted breakers were developed for the construction and rental industries,” said Kevin Loomis, Atlas Copco construction tool business line manager. “And their simplicity makes them easy to use and quick to maintain, which results in high utilization rates for rental centers.”

The EC breaker attachments feature Atlas Copco’s box-style mounting systems, which eliminate the need for removing external fasteners to access components, such as wear bushings and seals, for maintenance. The results are expedited turnaround times for maintenance, which boosts utilization rates.

Operators can use the breakers in noise- and vibration-restricted worksites because of Atlas Copco’s exclusive VibroSilenced Plus systems. These systems isolate percussion mechanisms from breaker boxes with polyurethane damping and seal all attachment openings to minimize noise and vibrations.

The breakers have service weights as low as 209 pounds and generate impact rates as high as 1,600 bpm to deliver effective impact energy to the breaking surface. With their high power-to-weight ratios, they’re highly effective in demanding applications such as demolition, earthwork, quarrying and trenching.

Atlas Copco measures the power of its breakers using the Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ foot-pound rating. The rating, which was developed by the Mounted Breaker Manufacturers Bureau, makes it easy for rental centers and contractors to compare breaker models by reviewing true figures collected after a certified test procedure.

EC breakers also ensure smooth operation through integrated features such as nitrogen-gas assist. The nitrogen piston accumulator works with the hydraulic oil to accelerate the piston, which decreases the hydraulic oil demand from the carrier’s hydraulic systems and delivers consistently high-impact energy.
