Canadian Rental Association
Hello, all. In keeping my finest tardiness form and after several “friendly” reminders from Patrick Flannery this is my farewell/au revoir message as the outgoing president for Canadian Rental Association.
Nov. 16, 2015 - Philip Lavigne of S.O.S. Location Industrie in St. Jean Sur Le Richelieu, Que., will be named 2015 Region 10 Person of the Year at the American Rental Association's Rental Show in February. Canada constitutes Region 10 within the American Rental Association, and the Person-of-the-Year award recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the association and the rental industry on the regional, provincial or local levels.
Nov. 3, 2015 - The group of 21 rental business owners that gathered together during March 1955 in Moline, Ill., and created what today is the American Rental Association (ARA) knew they could gain knowledge from each other and improve their own rental companies with their new wisdom. As ARA prepares to honor its 60th anniversary with a celebration at The Rental Show 2016 in Atlanta, the two rental leaders who will become the latest inductees into the Rental Hall of Fame have built long, influential careers based on sharing the knowledge they’ve gained to help others create their own business success.
Oct. 23, 2015 - The sun was shining on September 21st as Jeff Cambell of St. Thomas Rent-all welcomed fellow rental operators and suppliers to his new location on the west end of St Thomas on Highway 3. The company moved earlier in 2015 to this new, larger and more geographically convenient location. Campbell led the tour though his front counter, warehouse and repair facility and showed off the expansive outdoor storage area.
Sept. 28, 2015 - CRA Members and Associates this is a reminder that nominations for the CRA Award of Merit must be submitted by September 30th to be considered for induction at the 2016 AGM during The Rental Show in Atlanta.
Sept. 18, 2015 - Major rental equipment dealers and manufacturers showed their strong support for the industry with some eye-catching donations to the Ontario Canadian Rental Association's annual golf tournament, held Sept. 15 at Springfield Golf and Country Club in Guelph, Ont. About 80 golfers enjoyed absolutely perfect weather and great conditions for the scramble.
As I write this, I am recovering from taking a few days of vacation this past week and getting my fill of golf in. One of the highlights of the past week was participating in the Manitoba Local Golf tourney which was held at Southwood Golf and Country Club on August 20. While the tourney was quaint in size, it is still one of the tournaments I have the most fun at.
It is hard to believe once again that summer is in its twilight stages. Don’t blink too quick or it will be gone completely. I have always found September to be a great time to start action plans and following through on the – wait for it – winter season.
Aug. 24, 2015 - The Global Rental Alliance (GRA), made up of seven peer equipment rental associations from throughout the world, held their mid-year meeting via webinar in late-August with executives of member associations present.
As the summer rolls along and the weather progressively continues to heat up along with day-to-day business one of the seasonal predicaments we find ourselves in is needing to manage vacation times for our employees.
May 21, 2015 - Leonard Hawk, 91, one of the founders and the first president of the American Rental Association (ARA), died May 6, 2015, in Moline, Ill.
In business, the goal is always to get out as much or more than you put in. After 35 years of involvement with the Canadian Rental Association, and many hundreds of hours volunteered as an executive at all levels, I can tell you that participation in your rental organization is an investment that pays off. My small store and my professional career would not be where they are today without the friends I made and the experiences I had inside the CRA. The benefits have been huge, and direct.
Happy spring to all! It certainly looks like spring has sprung in good ol’ Winnipeg. Weather has been pretty darn fine – just praying we haven’t peaked early. As I contemplated what to write for this column (valiantly fighting off writer’s block), I settled for a bit of a potpourri of topics to touch on.
May 5, 2015 - The three-year term of your current National Supplier Director, Dean Nasato, is coming to an end. These types of positions demand tremendous dedication and therefore we would like to thank him for volunteering his time, and for a job well done!
