Ammann rollers now equipped with Cummins Tier 3 engines

Aug. 24, 2009 – All new heavy compaction rollers from Ammann in 2009 will now be equipped with Tier 3 Cummins engines for compliance with the strictest environmental standards in Canada and the United States.

Cummins Tier 3 engines are now in Ammann Heavy Compaction Rollers.

Peter Price, the Ammann area sales manager in Canada, reports that Ammann took the opportunity to implement numerous product improvements as part of its Tier 3 program.

A robust multi-function digital display unit is now integrated in the electronic engine control system. This provides a comprehensive diagnosis system to inform the operator of the machine’s servicing and maintenance details. The electronic information system also improves the efficiency of the Ammann traction control system when the machine is operating in difficult terrain and on varied types of material.

A redesign of the engine compartment, required to accommodate the modified Cummins cooling system, led Ammann to make further improvements to the accessibility of all maintenance and service points.

Cummins engines have earned accolades for their advanced in-cylinder technology, which achieves excellent “green” emissions goals without adding complex external hardware or exhaust after treatments to the system.

“With these engines, Ammann heavy compactors not only comply with US EPA Tier 3, CARB Tier 3 and EU Stage III standards,” Price says, “They also preserve high performance and low maintenance demands that customers expect from Ammann globally.”

Ammann Tier 3 heavy compaction equipment includes single drum rollers, tandem rollers and rubber-tired rollers ranging from 6 to 25 tonnes with up to 215 HP (160 kW).
